Rising Tides
Source
Susan Collin’s most recent work, Rising Tides, commissioned for the Bangkok Art Biennale, involved installing network cameras on floating piers in Bangkok and London to investigate the relationship between climate, and rising tides of the two cities. The movement of these two rivers are mimicked by the rise and fall of the cameras recording them, producing stunning, climate responsive images. I think Collins work is challenging my perception of the relationship of art to technology. What does it mean for art to be an educational tool? How can art inherently create rool for education out of traditionally “educational” spaces? How can art education be culturally responsive? And how can the intersection between art and technology open space for more exploration?
